Why We Love Spelt

Spelt is an ancient relative of wheat that has been around for thousands of years. We love it not only for its its sweet, nutty flavor, but also for the long list of nutrients that make it a better-for-you choice.

Even though Spelt is nothing new in the grain world, it’s been gaining popularity recently because of all the health benefits it has to offer. Unlike other cereal grains, Spelt is high in protein and dietary fiber, both of which are important for a balanced diet. It is also packed with vitamins and minerals like iron, vitamin E, zinc, magnesium, and B-complex.

Spelt products generally have a higher dietary fiber content in comparison to other wheat varieties. This can potentially be helpful for digestive health and speed up the absorption of nutrients into the body. Dietary fiber has also been known to help lower cholesterol levels and slow the absorption of cholesterol from high-fat foods. The presence of vitamin B3, or niacin, is also thought to help lower triglyceride levels in the body.

Because of it’s high mineral content, spelt can also potentially be beneficial for bone health. Some minerals in Spelt in particular, such as zinc, selenium, and magnesium have been linked improving the strength and development of bone tissue.
