These days everyone is distracted by the latest Apple product or Playstation game, but is that what really makes your kids happy? You know that they get excited about the gift but how long does it take until they want the newer game or update iPod? Studies have shown that electronics and presents are not what makes our youth genuenly joyful. What makes your kids smile? Family time.
“Spending time with family was the top answer to that open-ended question, according to an extensive survey — more than 100 questions asked of 1,280 people ages 13-24 — conducted by The Associated Press and MTV on the nature of happiness among America’s young people.
Next was spending time with friends, followed by time with a significant other. And even better for parents: Nearly three-quarters of young people say their relationship with their parents makes them happy.”
The unconditional love and acceptance from parents and siblings makes playtime real and authentic. Your kids can be who they are instead of who they think they should be. Next time your child is feeling down in the dumps, take them to the park or make cookies together instead of buying them the hottest toy. They want to be with you, how beautiful and organic is that?:)
