KIDS! And Gluten-Allergies!

This Thursday August 25th Rudi’s Gluten-free bakery is sponsoring in support with the NFCA a FREE webinar to talk about the Importance of School Nurse Education & How-To Strategies for Parents of Gluten-Free Kids. The talk begins at 9pm ET/ 6pm PT and I cannot think of a better way to spend a Thursday night! Kids in particularly elementary and middle school are constantly faced with celiac/gluten intolerant situations. Food is a tool that is used in schools to promote learning and celebration. When there is a birthday, kids bring in treats to celebrate with their peers being another year older, what do kids with a gluten allergy do to celebrate other non-gluten allergic kid’s birthdays? Then there is snack time, a much needed break in the day where kids are able to break out of the classroom and onto the jungle gym or four square court and get a much needed nutritious (hopefully) replenishment to concentrate on their studies, what are the best ways to make sure food options are non-gluten?

When I asked school teachers about handling gluten-free kids we discussed requirements for allergies. Do you think allergy bracelets should be a strict condition for schools? This is one that one teacher told me she thought would make avoiding gluten a lot easier for teachers to recognize for their students. What are some of the other main concerns for nurses, teachers and parents? So many questions to be answered!
