One of the most celebrated traditions around the holidays is decorating sugar cookies. Families use this fun activity as an after school treat, a gift to a friends, or as a fun party idea! Up until recently being gluten free you haven’t been able to fully participate in this annual tradition. Decorating cookies is a goofy and fun way to bring loved ones together and kids adore it! When you are decorating make sure that everything you use, sprinkles, icing, and decorations are gluten free.
Gluten Free Sugar Cookies
1 cup sugar
1 cup butter
2 egg yolks
2 tsp gluten-free vanilla extract
2 ¼ cups gluten-free flour blend
¼ tsp salt
Combine sugar and butter in a large bowl and beat until creamy, then add yolks and vanilla and mix until everything is integrated. Mix in flour and salt to finish the dough. Mold into a large bowl and wrap in cling-wrap, put into the refrigerator for an hour.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Roll out dough on to a gluten-free floured surface into ¼ inch think slab. Use any shape cookie cutters and place onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 8-12 minutes or until lightly browned. Once cooled place onto a plate and decorate how ever you want:)
