Tricks of the Trade

September 17, 2012

Last week I talked about incorporating your kids into choosing healthy foods for their lunches, but when that doesn’t work what do you do to ensure their eating right? It is time to play role reversal and trick your kids.

Tip #1. Fine Chopped, Sliced, and Diced- When making things like hamburgers, casseroles, and even sauces you can add very finely chopped less intense veggies like mushrooms, zucchini, and some kinds of squash into the mix.

Tip #2. Lather with Cheese- Kids are going to eat Mac and Cheese no matter what, so instead of having a side of veggies why not add broccoli and/or cauliflower to the creamy noodle dish? With my family I add tomatoes and red sauce to mix things up and they love it(only with white cheese Mac and Cheese though)!

Tip # 3. Spinach Smoothie- Making your kids a smoothie with bananas and strawberries, blueberries and raspberries, oranges and mangoes? This is the perfect time to add key leafy greens like spinach and kale. It doesn’t alter the taste at all and the kiddos still get those important nutrients!

You will be the master at tricking them!! And they will be eating healthier too:)
