Chocolate is healthy?

October 18, 2012

Chocolate has been wrongly accused of being bad for us. Sure some kinds of sugar infused chocolate candy is not something you should be eating daily, but a piece of dark chocolate can actually help you a lot more than you think, and you can thank flavanols for that.

“Flavanols are a group of natural compounds that are particularly abundant in cocoa”. They are the cause of the health benefits that we can gain from dark chocolate. Flavanols reduce stress, help maintain a steady metabolism, contribute to weight loss, and rid us of salt, sugar, and fatty cravings. They key to getting all of these benefits is control and moderation, eating 3 bars of dark chocolate a day will not help you lose weight.

But a small square ,when you are dying for that bowl of ice cream or the latest Pinterest dessert, will help keep you satisfied. When you are freaking out about a project at work or where to pick your kid up from next, a piece of dark chocolate will not only help you at that moment to be less stressed but if consumed regularly it will lower your stress levels and thus help with weight loss.
