Organic Pantry Swap

June 4, 2012

Inspired by Sara Snow’s video with The Organic Center, today we’re sharing some quick substitutions you can make in your pantry to help your family eat organic. As Sara said a pantry will often accumulate less-than-healthy snacks. This “junk-drawer” may be just the temptation keeping your family from their healthy eating goals! Removing beloved snacks from the pantry may feel like a punishment, so instead substitute them for healthier organic options. Substituting organic versions for conventional products already found in your pantry makes adjusting to organic easier for your family – they don’t have to adjust their eating habits.

To decide which foods to substitute first make a list of all the food in your pantry. Order the list by how popular each item is with the family. Next time you’re at the grocery store just replace them with organic substitutes.

Besides the ones in the video, here are some other substitutes:

Annie’s Organic Shells & White Cheddar instead of Kraft Mac & Cheese

Newman’s Own Organics Newman-O’s instead of Oreo’s

Nature’s Path Organic Toaster Pastries instead of Pop-Tarts

Late July Organic Bite Size Cheddar Cheese Crackers instead of Cheez-Its
