5 Tips for Staying Fit on Vacation from Guest Blogger Madeline

September 28, 2012

Hi everyone!  My name is Madeline and I blog about tasty eats, sweaty workouts and life as a family of three on my blog Food, Fitness, and Family. I am really excited to write today since Rudi’s is one of my all-time favorite products. The Multigrain English Muffins with Flax are my go-to pre-run fuel in the mornings.

Taking a vacation or a work business trip can derail even the most well laid out plans when it comes to healthy living. I learned this first hand as I spent most of August away from home right in the middle of half-marathon training. Luckily there are a few steps you can take to make sure you’re staying fit while vacationing!

1.  Plan Ahead

When you are choosing your hotel, see if there is one with fitness amenities. More and more hotels are making gyms available to their guests. Some hotels also give you passes to local gyms, or offer fitness classes on site. If you’re staying with friends or family, see if there is nearby gym that will give you a free week-long pass or a discounted rate! My mom’s gym gave me a two-week pass for $15!

2.  Pack for Fitness

Make sure you pack your workout clothes and appropriate shoes! You can also pack a fitness DVD or a stash of resistance bands to make working out in your hotel room and option.

3.  Check Pinterest

I love Pinterest for so many reasons. One of which is that there is no shortage of workouts waiting to be pinned. Many of these are body-weight only, and can be done anywhere!

4.  Incorporate Your Workouts Into Your Plans

Plan a hike or walking tour of the area you’re visiting.  You can still enjoy your vacation and move at the same time.

5.  Relax

While staying fit on vacation is important to keep your healthy living train going, don’t forget to live in the moment and enjoy your time. If you miss a workout it’s not the end of the world … if you miss a vacation memory, you could regret it for a lifetime.

No matter where you go or what you do, by using these five tips you are sure to stay fit while on vacation!
